New phone service offers alternative to Verizon
June 26 - July 3, 2003
Blue Casa Communications dubs itself as the new local alternative to Verizon. The new phone service, based in Santa Barbara, will service customers living between Oxnard and San Luis Obispo. Blue Casa will allow customers to customize their local, long distance, and other special calling features, receiving a single bill. They also promise to provide each customer with the same representative every time they call for customer service.
According to a Blue Casa statement, the company is the first of its kind on the Central Coast, and it will end Verizon's "monopoly" on phone service in the area.
Bill Oas, founder and CEO of Blue Casa, was the former head of Consumer Products for Verizon. In a statement, Oas said that through his experience at Verizon, he created the idea for the new service to satisfy local needs.
